Young Chef of the Year Awards Dinner

The 2013 Young Chef of the Year Awards Dinner will take place on Monday 20th May at the Novotel London West.

The evening, held in association with Dingley Dell “Flying Visits”, RSPCA’s Freedom Foods and A Passion to Inspire, features a six course dinner prepared jointly by some of the UK's most well known chefs and college students and is designed to represent a celebration of the UK's young culinary talent.

Commenting on the event, Novotel London West's Executive Head Chef, Roy Thompson said,
"Regardless of the pressures of business, it's really important that senior chefs dedicate some time to the support of the next generation coming through. The Master Chefs of Great Britain and events like this provide an excellent framework within which to do exactly that so we're delighted to be hosting the evening."

Proceeds from the event will go to the Motor Neurone Disease Association and the MCGB's Training Fund which offers ongoing opportunities to young chefs.

2013 Meetings Industry Marketing Awards

Novotel London West is delighted to announce that it will be the host venue for the 2013 Meetings Industry Marketing Awards. The Meetings Industry Marketing Awards (MIMA) was launched in 2002 to raise the standards of marketing in the meetings and events industry and to recognise the marketers. Organised by Meetings & Incentive Travel magazine, the 12th presentation gala dinner will take place on Thursday 24th October 2013.

Novotel London West Director of Sales & Marketing, Ed Hobson, commented,
"Having previously and for a number of years been the host venue for the magazine’s Meetings & Incentive Travel Awards, we’re delighted to now be chosen as the venue for the MIMA dinner. Internal mobility key as Accor expands

French hotel group Accor has put internal mobility and training at the heart of expansion plans, launching its UK training academy the same day it said it would create 3,500 new jobs in the country by 2015.

The company, whose UK brands include Sofitel, Novotel and ibis, will bring the number of hotels it operates in the UK from 185 to 300 in the next three years.

The announcement came at an event this morning at the Novotel London West in Hammersmith, which also saw the official launch of the company's Académie Accor training centre, its 17th centre worldwide. The centre will provide training to 5,000 Accor employees every year with a £5m investment.

Accor invests £5m in employee training

Hotel group Accor has announced that it is to invest £5m in employee training and create 3,500 jobs in the UK by 2015.

The news came as the firm unveiled a new training facility, part of its Académie Accor programme, in the Novotel London West in Hammersmith.

The company said it had made the investment to ensure that it had enough skilled employees to cope with its expansion plans, as it moved towards its target of 300 UK hotels, from the 185 it currently has.

"Now more than ever, finding and developing talent is vital to achieving our ambitious growth strategy. This is why we are making this significant investment," said Thomas Dubaere, managing director of Accor UK and Ireland. "Hospitality is a very promising career path. Indeed, the vast majority of our senior managers started as trainees at one of our hotels."

NLW Achieves First Restaurant Accolade

Novotel London West is delighted to announce that their new concept restaurant, Artisan Grill, has been awarded it’s first AA Rosette for culinary excellence.

Under the stewardship of Executive Head Chef Roy Thompson, Artisan Grill offers all British, high quality but simply prepared dishes.

Thompson served his apprenticeship at the Dorchester Hotel before moving to France to further his culinary development and in 1997 was appointed President des Fetes of the Association Cullinaire Francaise.

Commenting on the accolade Thomson said,
"The kitchen brigade and front of house team are thrilled with this recognition and we're all very hopeful that this first Rosette becomes a waypoint for further, greater success"

NLW appoints new Executive Head Chef

July 2011

Novotel London West General Manager, Michael Sloan, has today announced the appointment of Roy Thompson as Executive Head Chef.

Thompson joins the 630 bedroom Accor Group flagship property having held previous Head Chef positions at a number of prestigious London properties including most recently at Hilton’s Waldorf Hotel.

Thompson served his apprenticeship at the Dorchester Hotel before moving to France to further his culinary development and in 1997 was appointed President des Fetes of the Association Cullinaire Francaise.

Commenting on his appointment Thompson said
"Moving to a hotel of Novotel London West’s size and profile represents the most significant challenge in my career to date and I’m thrilled to be here.  A huge amount of time and money has been spent on developing the Food & Beverage operation here and it’s now my job to take those developments to the next culinary level."

Staff turnover rates are at a record low

Between Jan 08 and Jan 09 staff turnover at London hotels was at 88%*. Against that background, it is no wonder that Novotel London West in Hammersmith are so proud of the fact that their staff turnover rates are at a record low of 13.3%.

On 28th July, the hotel is holding an awards ceremony to celebrate this achievement and to thank the staff for their continued loyalty. 34 staff, who between them have worked more than half a millennium at the hotel, will be toasted by Jean-Jaques Dessours (the Managing Director of Accor – the owners of the flagship Novotel – himself a longstanding employee of the Group) and Michael Sloan (the General Manager of Novotel London West). Each longstanding member of staff has been awarded with a cash bonus and will receive a tailor made award. Many of the 34 staff being recognised have worked at the hotel for over 25 years in roles that are traditionally some of the most transient in a transient business: front of house, finance and IT. Some staff have enjoyed more than 30 years of service.

Novotel London West has embarked upon an extensive refurbishment plan designed to position the hotel as one of Europe’s Leading Conference and Convention Hotels.

General Manager, Michael Sloan, comments,
"When I came to Novotel London West in April 2007, the hotel was already a successful venue for corporate accommodation and events of all sizes. However, we were all aware that the hotel had more potential and with this forthcoming investment we will be able to compete on a higher level."

"This work has been more than 18 months in the planning and follows extensive research and consultation with clients. We broke ground on the project some weeks ago and have already completed Phase One, the new Groups Arrival Lounge, and are about to complete Phase Two, the Small / Medium Meeting Rooms."
